#FridayFiver – 👏 🌤️ March Madness

Happy Friday everyone!

As we enter the third month of the year, what is there to do but lament the passage of time and reflect on the – oh, biscuit? Yes, please.

As we snack ourselves into blissful oblivion, the world keeps turning.

But it isn’t all Zoom and doom – here are just five stories from the world this week that will have you chuckling into your morning cuppa!

🌳 Animate Your Ancestors

Deepfakes are one of the newest dystopian phenomena to hit the web, and sinister though they may be, we have to admit that this concept from MyHeritage.com is pretty nifty. Their new feature that allows users to animate old photographs of their ancestors has gone viral this week after some famous names have received the digital treatment.

Stranger than fiction.

🏆 And The Award Goes To…

… Anya Taylor-Joy, John Boyega, Mark Ruffalo, Catherine O’Hara, Jodie Foster, and a whole host of other famous names at this year’s virtual Golden Globes ceremony. Several stars of Netflix’s The Crown also came away victorious, including Gillian Anderson and Emma Corrin, whilst the late Chadwick Boseman, who sadly passed away in August last year, was posthumously awarded Best Actor In A Film (Drama) for his final role in ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’.

❤️ A Little Love (Island)

It’s no secret that social media influencers can have a major impact on business success thanks to their vast followerships. But one Hampton-based furniture co. were surprised to see for themselves the effect it had on their growth almost overnight. After a Love Island star shared a snap on the ‘gram featuring one of their creations, a small wooden table, Still & Bloom founder Nick Fisher told BBC News he now ‘can’t make them quick enough’ and said the photo grew his follower count by 2,500 in just 24 hours.

🎼 Facebook Introduces TikTok Rival Feature

The past year has seen Twitter introducing ‘fleets’ to catch up with the rest of the world, whilst Instagram introduced ‘Reels’, a TikTok-esque short-form video feature. Now Facebook is the next social media giant to compete with Gen Z’s favourite app, introducing ‘BARS’ which provides users with backing tracks to create their own raps. Maybe you can spit a hit?

Get down with the kids.

💉 Single Dose Covid Vaccine Gets Approval

One final quick-fix of good news – Johnson & Johnson’s COVID vaccine has now received FDA approval in the USA. This particular miracle variant requires a single dose, and it has been confirmed that the UK has already placed an order, meaning it could be ready for roll-out over here within weeks.
